Marble Falls Independent School District joined several other districts throughout Central Texas to close school for the entire week, cancel events and potentially delay the start in coming days as winter weather conditions are forecast to become more severe.
“Due to forecasts that include the likelihood of additional precipitation and temperatures that are predicted to be historically low, there are continued concerns about travel conditions and the possibility of significant strain on infrastructure (water, electricity, etc.) throughout the region,” according to a statement from MFISD officials.
The district provided a list of postponed or canceled events and activities through the rest of the week:
• All MFISD campuses and offices are closed Tuesday, Feb. 16, through Friday, Feb. 19.
• All district events, activities, and meetings (including the meeting of the MFISD Board of Trustees) are canceled, including all activities during the weekend of Feb. 20-21.
“All community members are encouraged to make preparation for bitterly cold temperatures/wind chill to occur.”
The district also asked parents and personnel to make a referral to the Community Resource Center at 830-693- 0700 for people who can not find adequate shelter. The emergency number is 830-798-4185.
“District leadership is working with local first responders and emergency preparedness planners to have our facilities, buses, personnel, and other resources available to assist with crisis response situations,” the statement read. “For this reason, you may see district personnel or property in operation during the weather event.”
