On Thursday December 3, 2020, Norma Carolyn Beck, of Marble Falls, passed peacefully into eternity at the age of 82. Carolyn was born November 16, 1938 in Santa Anna, Texas to Nathan and Nadine Parker. She had one younger sister, Sandy, that was born into their family in 1940.

Carolyn spent her childhood growing up in Brownwood, Texas and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1956. Growing up, Carolyn always said she wanted to grow up to be a teacher! She always had a passion for music, especially the piano, and was also very active in her church, even as a young teenager. She always loved God and desired to live a life that pleased Him.

Carolyn attended Howard Payne University her freshman year of college and then transferred to Southwest Texas State University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1962. In April of 1962, she was married to Calvin A. Beck of Waelder, Texas. They married in the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood, Texas. Her maid of honor was her sister, Sandy Cole and their best man was Calvin’s brother, Harold Beck.

The young couple moved to Houston where Calvin worked for Transco Oil Company, and Carolyn took a job teaching 2nd grade. It was in 1966 that their daughter Melinda Elaine was born. They stayed in Houston until 1972 when they moved to Dallas and then to Marble Falls in 1976.

Carolyn continued to teach for 30 years and retired in 1992 while residing in Marble Falls. Unfortunately, Calvin passed away at the young age of 62 in December 1996. The couple had been members of the Methodist church since the time they were married and Carolyn remained very active. Her favorite things were singing in the choir, her involvement in Emmaus, serving with United Methodist Women, and working with children in VBS.

She cherished the friends she made there and was always busy serving in numerous roles. Carolyn was also very active in her community by being a volunteer in the CASA program, volunteering at the Helping Center and the Library Thrift store. Her time spent helping others was always a blessing to her and never done in vain. She truly loved helping others with her gifts of creativity and the spirit of joy that she always shared!

It can’t go unmentioned that Carolyn had another passion, traveling with family and friends. Traveling and seeing the God’s country brought her a lot of joy! And she loved to document her trips by making wonderful photo albums to record her memories.

Carolyn absolutely loved her family dearly. From her large extended Beck family, to her immediate family. Holidays were always spent together with food and fellowship and she always looked forward to these times. She cherished the family and friends that God blessed her with.

“Nana” was very proud of her only child, Melinda (and husband Mike), and especially proud of her grandchildren. She would beam with joy when talking about her family! She left a note saying that she has lived a “wonderful, full life” and wanted to “send her love to all of her family and friends”. The thing people would mention most about Carolyn was her beautiful smile, her zest for life, for giving, for serving, and her unbelievable joy and energy! She left a beautiful legacy of love! What a joy filled life she lived for Christ … all the way to the end.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Nathaniel Parker and Nadine Ripley Parker. Also preceded in death by her husband Calvin A. Beck and her sister Sandra Elaine Cole.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Melinda Beck Savage and husband Mike, her grandson Crockett (and wife, Jeni, and their one year old daughter Emmi Lou) and also by granddaughter Sarah Savage, all of Marble Falls. Other survivors include two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and one cousin.

A visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 1101 Bluebonnet Dr., Marble Falls, Texas, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2020. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist on Wednesday December 9, 2020 at 2 p.m.
