Ray Cecil Maugham, 76, of Kenedy, Texas, formerly of Kingsland and Buchanan Dam, passed away July 23, 2020.

He was born in Mudd, Texas, now covered by Lake Travis on March 15, 1944, to James Edward and Ollie Alberta (Gentry) Maugham.

Cecil loved the people from Buchanan Dam and considered all of them his extended family.

Cecil’s favorite way to travel was on foot, and drivers would honk and wave as they passed.

He usually waved back if he recognized the friend. However, it was up to the driver’s interpretation if not recognized by Cecil. Sometimes they would stop and offer a ride, and sometimes Cecil would accept, but most of the time, he would choose to walk.

On exceptional occasions, Cecil would ask for a ride. The most special annual event for Cecil was his birthday. The special day outranked all holidays, and he would buy the biggest birthday cake he could afford and share it with friends at hotspots in Buchanan Dam. He relished the attention while enjoying the beer and gifts given by other patrons.

Cecil was proficient at dickering and found treasures at garage sales throughout Kingsland and Buchanan Dam.

He gifted many of his prizes to exceptional people while setting up shop and selling others to patrons and friends in Buchanan Dam. He was a simple man with an adoring and cantankerous personality.

Cecil will be genuinely missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his twin sister, Earlene Jackson, of Granite Shoals, Texas, brother Edmond Maugham, of Granite Shoals, Texas niece, Ollie Busby and husband Don, of Burnet, Texas numerous other nieces and nephews and special friends Hank and Wanda Goldsmith.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the Putnam Funeral Home Chapel with certified celebrant Jessamyn Putnam presiding. An online guest register and maps can be found at PutnamCares.com.
