Escondido gains top five course ranking

Escondido Golf & Lake Club, the Tom Fazio masterpiece course and community located inside Horseshoe Bay, achieved its first-ever top five ranking in the annual Dallas Morning News Texas Golf statewide golf course rankings. Escondido stands 5th amongst all Lone Star courses and once again is first in Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country.

Escondido, a Memberowned Club located 50 miles west of Austin and north of San Antonio was again ranked as the best Austin-San Antonio area course in the prestigious Morning News statewide poll, the state’s only comprehensive rankings with voters considering more than 800 Lone Star links to vote for the best course.

The Tom Fazio design was only one of four courses in the top 10 statewide to move up this year and has been ranked in the statewide top 10 every year for a decade, making it a Texas premium club fixture.

“This is another great step to our goal of being number one in the state for our members and their guests,” said COO/ General Manager J.J. Wagner.

Opened in 2006, Escondido features an award-winning par 71 Tom Fazio Golf course along with a gorgeous, Tuscan-style Clubhouse. The full-service Lakeside Club has boats for rent to members, a heated pool with fountains, a pizza kitchen and pool bar.

For the guests of members, there are four modern guest houses on property offering four master bedrooms, each with their own en suite bath, a fully stocked kitchen, common living area, covered back porch leading to a putting green, and two fire pits overlooking Pecan Creek and the scenic Club grounds.

For golfers, the biggest thrills are found on the course, which plays at 7,165 yards from the back tees. Escondido hosts several statewide amateur tournaments, which can be played from a variety of tee locations. Much of the year, the course, which winds gracefully through the community, is covered with wildflowers, dozens of hardwoods, and families of deer, along with plenty of natural, spring fed creeks.

Golfers graze in the impressively stocked comfort stations and stop for a famous brisket taco at the Smoke Shack, which is ranked as one of the best halfway houses in the country by Golf Digest. Escondido is also home to the acclaimed Dave Pelz Short Game School.
