Work by contractors for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reached a fevered pace Sept. 4 for U.S. 281 work in Marble Falls.

The work, known as access management, involves primarily pedestrian improvements such as sidewalks from Nature Heights to Lantana Drive, according to TxDOT.

Other work includes adding curbs, gutters and improved drainage systems as well as access enhancement on right-of-way on the west side of the highway adjacent to business driveways.

So far, much of the sidewalk work has unfolded in the 2700 block of the roadway in front of Walmart and strip malls and eateries south of the big box store.

Other TxDOT sidewalk and handicap access work in town were completed several months ago from Third to Eighth streets as well.
