Grant Dean passed from this life and into the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ on November 5, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a host of family and friends who mourn his passing and celebrate the unique, gregarious, hard-working, fun-loving individual Grant was.

He was born March 6, 1954 in Beaumont to Sybil and Gerald Dean. After he graduated from Silsbee HS in 1972, he attended Panola Junior College on a baseball scholarship. He transferred to Lamar University in Beaumont, and circumstances eventually led him to Marble Falls where he has made his home and a full life for the past 39 years.

Grant established Cactus Construction in 1984. Over the years, the business has continued to evolve and expand due to Grant’s hard work and dedication to his customers. The company has built many custom homes and important structures throughout the Hill Country, including Trinity Episcopal Church, where he was a member for 36 years, serving on the vestry and participating in many church functions.

Grant passionately championed many significant causes throughout his lifetime and helped shape the quality of life in Marble Falls and the Hill Country. If he felt there was a wrong to be righted or a need that had not been met, he took action to improve the situation.

Grant co-founded and was vice president of Mission Marble Falls which feeds 35-70 citizens three days per week. A committed conservationist, he founded Highland Lakes Clean Air, which became Protect Texas due to the influx of Rock Crushing Quarries throughout the Hill Country. Grant was also an original participant and supporter of the Hill Country 100 Man program.

Concerned with bringing more business to the downtown area, Grant cofounded Marble Falls Main Street Association and Marble Falls Adult Soap Box Derby.

In addition to his hard work, Grant still managed to enjoy his many hobbies. He was an avid sporting clay competitor, fisherman, gardener, and live music supporter, even bringing live music to downtown Marble Falls.

With all his accomplishments, he always felt that his greatest role in life was as a father to his two boys and grandfather “Cappy” to his three grandchildren, whom he adored. He coached his sons’ youth basketball and baseball teams, supporting their every endeavor, and Grant taught his grandchildren about the love of animals, the wonders of nature, and respect for all people. He was a true and loyal friend whose large personality and quick wit made a lasting impact on so many lives.

Grant is survived by his son, Travis Dean (Beverly); son, Cullen Dean; Travis’s three children, Charlie, Lilly, and Hannah Dean; and his brother, Gary Dean (Renee); as well as beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his parents. A special thanks to Laurae Valentine and Maggie McLearen for their loving care and support for Grant and his family.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Trinity Episcopal Church, Mission Marble Falls or charity of donor’s choice.
