March 1, 1944 — August 17, 2020
James Robert Burton, 76, of Kingsland, Texas passed away surrounded by his family on August 17, 2020. James was born to James and Joy (Earskin) Bull on March 1, 1944 in Pecos, Texas.
James attended school in Abilene, Texas and played football for Abilene-Wiley High School until 1962. After high school, he married Donna Johnson, moved to Austin, Texas and had two children. James settled in Kingsland, Texas in 1970 and was known as an excellent tile setter. James laid tile in many of the beautiful homes in the Hill Country, especially the Highland Lakes area. His intricate work and attention to detail put his work above the rest.
James loved his family, and his sons and daughters had a special place in his heart. He made sure growing up that they knew how to perform the routine maintenance on their vehicles, be self-sufficient, and of course, lay tile.
James’ work was his main hobby until his retirement in 2018. He enjoyed spending time riding three wheelers in the Llano River bottom, riding bicycles around Kingsland with his daughters, and working on cars. James will be remembered for many things, by many people, but his favorite quote has been adopted by a few as a way to live their life. “Learn how to be unoffendable, it makes life much easier if you are not offended by what people say or do.”
He is survived by his wife, Nita Burton of Kingsland, Texas; children, Robert Burton and wife Janean of Kingsland, Texas, Teri Hobbs and husband Randy of Abilene, Texas, Jaclyn Decker and husband Chris of Meadowlakes, Texas, and Jenna Sivells and husband Seth of Kingsland, Texas; grandchildren, Randy Burton and wife Abby, Reid Burton, Abbey Sivells, Robert Sivells, and one great-grandchild, Dante. One sister, Dolores Hallford, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Donna Gay Johnson, son, Christopher Booth, and sister, Joy Hagings.
A memorial service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Packsaddle Fellowship in Kingsland, Texas with Robert Billingslea officiating.
