Joe Robert Williams III, 78, of Sunrise Beach, Texas, formerly of San Antonio, Texas passed away on November 19, 2020. He was born on September 15, 1942 to Joe Robert Williams Jr. and Merdell Conaway in Georgetown, Texas.

Mr. Williams was a beloved science teacher at Rhodes Middle School for over 33 years for the San Antonio ISD.

His passion for teaching inspired thousands of children and fellow teachers. He supported his colleagues and friends by advocating for them through the American Federation of Teachers.

He was also a permanent member of the San Antonio Softball Board. Mr. Williams played slow pitch and coached three different teams for many years, establishing lifelong friendships.

His free time in the fall & winter was spent bird & deer hunting as well as fishing anytime he found a lake or river to run a trot line. After retiring to Sunrise Beach, he kept a year-round garden, growing and preserving pecans, fruits, and vegetables.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Williams, of 33 years, as well as his children: Jason Williams and wife Kathy, of San Antonio, Texas; Bradley Williams and wife Sharon, of Adkins, Texas, Holly Rhodes and husband Kevin, of McGregor, Texas; and Kathryn Dinnin, of San Antonio, Texas; in addition to his sister, Janis Cassens and husband Curtis, of Jarrell, Texas, nephew, Gary Cassens and wife Laura, of Sun City, Texas, niece, Karen Bernd and partner Kevin Wenske, of South Austin, Texas, niece, Rebecca Hawes and husband Clay, of Liberty Hill, Texas, brother, John Williams, nephew, Benjamin Williams and wife Lindsey, of California, plus eight grandchildren and numerous extended family members.

Memorial service will be February 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Burial immediately following at Sandy Mountain Cemetery in Sunrise Beach Village, Texas.
