The Faith Academy boys basketball team is back in action and opened up their season with two home victories last week.

The Flames have been on pause as their football team moved onto the State semifinals. The Flames played host to Eden on Dec. 15 and Lago Vista on Dec. 18.

The Flames had to work off some rust in the first half against Eden. They shot just 1-for-16 from three-point land as the Bulldogs kept it close. At halftime the Flames lead by just one point, but that lead ballooned quickly as the Flames caught fire in the third quarter.

They outscored the Bulldogs 26-9 in the period and closed the game 63-42 with a second half performance from senior guard Carter Slyker leading the way.

The Flames went 8-for-15 from three in the second half as Slyker would end up with 20 points and senior guard Tyler Kwan added in 16.

On Friday, the Vikings came to town, and the Flames were fortunate to get off to a quicker start. Lead by junior point guard Case Coleman, the Flames jumped out early and never looked back.

Faith would lead Lago Vista 44-24 headed into halftime. The lead would grow and shrink as the game went on, and Faith did enough to hold off the Vikings for a 77-48 victory.

Slyker again lead all scorers with 23, and Coleman added 20 in his first action of the season. Head Coach Zakk Revelle said,

“Winning is difficult so to get two in a week is always great. Give a lot of credit to Coach Gamboa at Eden and Coach Fogg at Lago, they coach their guys well and will have great seasons.”

He added, “We’re happy to spend Christmas 2-0 but the mission isn’t 2-0; it’s 1-0 every day. We look forward to getting back to work after the holidays.”

The Flames are currently the #2 ranked team in TAPPS 2A according to the most recent Texas Association Basketball Coaches poll. Faith will be back in action on Dec. 31 when they travel to UIL 3A #16 Lorena and then play host to San Marcos Home School on Jan. 2 at 2 p.m.
