Marble Falls High School educator Leondard Venhaus posed a simple question recently to his students to inspire them to think about their own impact in society. “I asked the kids, ‘Do you have a bed?’ They say, ‘Yeah, I do.” I tell them some people don’t,” he said.

Highland Lakes Crisis Network volunteers will embark on a task to build a solid foundation for rest and comfort for youngsters in the local community. HLCN is joining forces with local churches, Daybreak Rotary, SkillsUSA chapter members from Marble Falls High School and the Austin chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build and deliver beds to children in our area who currently sleep on the floor.

Highland Lakes Crisis Network is on a new mission. The primary message the group hopes to convey is how the foster care system is “in crisis,” inpiring the local nonprofit to jump in and help with a new facility.

Ice and snow from Winter Storm Uri threw a passel of curveballs at Highland Lakes residents for the second and part of the third week in February, creating conditions which hampered the state’s electrical grid, brought down tree branches on houses and cars, froze water pipes and made roads impassable.
