Highland Lakes residents are being strongly urged not to let their dogs play near or ingest algae in any of the lakes controlled by the Lower Colorado River Authority. Test results received back Tuesday, March 23, from samples of blue-green algae taken on March 16-17 from five Highland Lakes — Buchanan, Inks, LBJ, Marble Falls and Travis — detected the presence of cyanotoxins in the samples from Inks Lake, Lake Marble Falls and Lake Travis.

Lake Buchanan designated as ‘infested’ with zebra mussels

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has designated Lake Buchanan, located west of Burnet and north of Inks Lake in the Colorado River Basin, as “infested” with invasive zebra mussels. Infested status signifies that there is an established, reproducing population of zebra mussels in the lake.

LCRA delays drawdown until 2022

The Lower Colorado River Authority does not plan to draw down any of the pass-through lakes in the Highland Lakes chain in 2021. This applies to lakes Inks, LBJ, Marble Falls and Austin.
