Based on notable devotion to community service, leadership and scholarship, Faith Academy student Kara Kwan received the Highland Lakes Kiwanis Club Sophomore of the Year award. The nonprofit organization’s club past president Frank Kloke presented her with the honor on March 8.

Falls on the Colorado Museum honors local veterans with exhibit

In time for Veterans Day, Nov. 11. the Falls on the Colorado Museum opens its Celebrate Veterans exhibit. On display throughout the month of November are a collection of information and artifacts from local veterans, including uniforms, medals, flags and more. Also on exhibit are two Quilts of Valor, which will be given out to local veterans. The quilts were made by Texas Hills Quilters Quilts of Valor group, which meets to quilt every Monday at the Country Quilt Shop in Llano. The quilts will be presented to veterans sometime after the first of the year. Bettsye Rose of Quilts of Valor explained the concept of quilts for veterans.

Local Veterans Day events to honor military service

The Marble Falls Noon Rotary Club will host a Veterans Day program which will feature patriotic images and presentations as well as recognition honoring local veterans. The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday Nov. 11 at the Rotary Veterans and First Responder Memorial at Johnson Park in Marble Falls.

Marble Falls ISD seeks to expand veterans wall roster

Nearly a month after unveiling the veterans wall at Marble Falls High School, district officials are now seeking information and photos of local veterans to feature in the display. The entryway of the high school features a wall painted with an American flag, emblems of the armed forces and a television screen with a slideshow of Mustang military members.

MFHS graduates die in pickup crash

Two 22-year-old men, who were beloved athletes and graduates from Marble Falls High School, were killed Sept. 11 in a single-vehicle rollover on Texas 71 in Llano County. Oscar Camacho Martinez, 22, of Marble Falls and Brian Rivera-Sanchez, 22, of Granite Shoals died at the scene of the crash, which was reported at 11:53 a.m. that day about one mile east of Horseshoe Bay.

Division, legality prompts MFISD to reverse mask mandate

The Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday, Sept. 8 to overturn a mask requirement at campuses after legal challenges changed and residents publicly voiced opinions. In a social media post following the special called meeting, district officials offered two reasons why the mandate was lifted. “This issue deeply divides this community and we are committed to action that will allow us to step back and put processes in place that seek to unite us as we address the issues of the pandemic,” the statement read. “Last week when the mask mandate was put in place, district counsel indicated it was ‘totally legal.’ Due to extermination of a temporary injunction that was in place, GA-38 now has the force of law in Burnet County.”
