Change, perseverance dominated 2021 sports

This year saw a return to relative normality in fall sports with the football teams of both local schools advancing further than the previous year. Mustangs football In the 2020 football season, officials pushed back the start date due to virus concerns, and teams were still in district play when the Thanksgiving break rolled around.

The Marble Falls High School football team was recognized this week as 22 players received All-District 14-5A-2 nods, including 10 players on the First Team and a most valuable player. The Mustangs made it all the way to the third round this season – further than they’ve been in more than 20 years – behind their running attack and staunch defense.

For the first time in more than 20 years, the Marble Falls High School football team has a spot in the third round of the 5A Division 2 UIL playoffs after a 35-13 victory over Mission Veterans Memorial on Friday in San Antonio.

Mustangs advance after overtime thriller in Brenham

For the second straight season, the Marble Falls High School football team knocked Brenham out of the playoffs, but this year it took two overtimes to get it done. The Mustangs got a stop on fourth down in the second overtime period to secure a 27-21 win and a spot in the Area round of the playoffs.

The Marble Falls High School football team officially punched their ticket to the postseason on Friday with a 76-0 home win against Austin Crockett. The Mustangs (7-3, 4-2) will meet Brenham in the first round for the second consecutive year after the Cubs lost to Leander Rouse and fell to second place on Friday night.

Mustangs open flood gates on visiting Vikings

The Marble Falls High School football team dominated both sides of the ball on Friday night to earn a 76-0 homecoming win against Austin Navarro. The Mustangs (5-3, 2-2) scored touchdowns on their first four plays from scrimmage and added a defensive score to create a 34-0 lead with barely half of the first quarter in the books.
