Marble Falls High School Lady Mustangs fought hard in “buzzer beater” loss

The Marble Falls High School Lady Mustangs basketball team traveled to Canyon Lake on Monday, Feb. 14. They went head-to-head with the New Braunfels Canyon. The Lady Stangs in a 5A bi-district playoff game suffered a defeat by a score of 43-46 in a match considered a “buzzer beater.” They competed soundly against Canyon. Prior to going to the event, the community showed their support with a send-off, by lining the US 281 bridge on their way to the game.

MFHS soccer teams dominates at Dripping Springs tourney

The Marble Falls High School soccer team enjoyed a successful weekend at the Dripping Springs Tournament with three wins over quality opponents, including a 7-0 shellacking of Seguin on Saturday. The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team dropped their season opener against Bastrop on Tuesday night by a score of 4-3. Head Coach Rick Hoover said on social media that the boys made it competitive throughout after giving up an early goal. The Marble Falls Lady Mustangs softball team returns to the diamond this month, starting with a scrimmage against Blanco on Jan. 29. The girls will host the Marble Falls tourney at the end of February, and district play is scheduled to begin on March 1. Contributed

This year saw a return to relative normality in fall sports with the football teams of both local schools advancing further than the previous year. Mustangs football In the 2020 football season, officials pushed back the start date due to virus concerns, and teams were still in district play when the Thanksgiving break rolled around.

Mustangs pack All-District list

The Marble Falls High School football team was recognized this week as 22 players received All-District 14-5A-2 nods, including 10 players on the First Team and a most valuable player. The Mustangs made it all the way to the third round this season – further than they’ve been in more than 20 years – behind their running attack and staunch defense.
