AquaBoom’s 2025 Grand Marshal receives star treatment
Hafdis Gentry, who someone once called a “powerhouse” behind the scenes, received a surprise visit from balloon- carrying family and friends several weeks ago at Wakepoint in Kingsland. Awarding her the honor of serving as this year’s AquaBoom Grand Marshal caused many Hafdis tears and humble acceptance, but all who know her and the endless hours of volunteering in her community couldn’t imagine anyone more deserving of this recognition.

Dropping the stones, searching within
Those who have never experienced an addiction can seem unsympathetic and uncaring. Why? There are several reasons, like thinking that self-inflicting destruction does not deserve compassion, or maybe it’s the arrogance of thinking they themselves would never be so blind as to let something like that happen to them. I feel the greater consideration would be, “is becoming captured in the dependency of a chemical more offensive to God than any other type of obsessive attraction or dependence?” Is drug addiction more of a sin than the addiction of overeating, pornography, alcohol, anger, exaggerating, or gambling. Many in today’s world have even developed a dependency associated with social media. So, why is it easier to discriminate and have prejudice against another addict than for example, someone who lies or cheats on their taxes? Maybe for some, it’s easier to condemn someone that in their denial is considered higher on the list of intentional destructive behavior.

Public invited to reading of founding documents in public square
Citizens in the tri-county area are invited to hear the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights read Thursday, the day before the Fourth of July.
