Waste collection events to be held this weekend

Burnet County and Llano County residents can do some spring cleaning with this weekend’s re-use and recycling collection events.

The details for both events vary in that Burnet County’s event accepts more items.

Burnet County

A BOPATE event is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burnet County Reuse and Recycle Center, 2411 FM 963, just outside Burnet. BOPATE stands for batteries, oil, paint (latex only), antifreeze, tires and electronics.

The event utilizes both county workers and volunteers and receives funding from participating municipalities and government entities as well as donations from the public.

The first 10 tires are free with a $3 per tire charge after that. No rims will be accepted.

For the BOPATE event, used motor oil and oil filters are ac cepted as well as latex paint (no oil-based paint), antifreeze, scrap metal (no lawnmowers nor appliances), and TVs are accepted but without consoles.

No commercial waste or construction items will be accepted. No furniture either.

Llano County

Llano County announces a countywide Limited Residential Bulk Collection Saturday, April 20, at the Llano County Annex, 8347 RR 1431 in Buchanan Dam from 8 a.m. to noon (or until full) for Llano County residents and MUD/KWSC customers.

Bulk furniture, chairs, couches, mattresses and scrap metal but no household garbage or freon appliances. More than 10 tires are $1 per tire, with 25 per vehicle of 20” tires maximum per vehicle.

For both events, participants must show proof of residency.
