HSB Cultural Enrichment season ticket holders along with many other music lovers were richly entertained on Sunday, March 6, when the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra’s Brass Quintet performed at the Horseshoe Bay Yacht Club. This is the first of

This is the first of four events the Cultural Enrichment Society is bringing to HSB in 2022.

The ROCO Quintet is led by George Chase, a talented musician who has performed with ensembles such as the Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Bach Society, and Boomtown Brass Band, as well as teaching at Houston Baptist University and AFA (American Festival for the Arts).

He is joined by a second trumpet, a French Horn, a trombone and a bass trombone.

The performance was exciting and dynamic, highlighted by beautiful brass tone exhibited across the full spectrum of musical genres, from Renaissance to Impressionistic to Jazz.

Their technique and virtuosity were of the highest caliber.

The Yacht Club Ballroom was the perfect venue for such a show, providing space enough for the sound of the quintet while also giving the audience an intimate setting in which to enjoy the music and interact with the musicians in between pieces.

The afternoon concert was divided into two programs, the first featuring compositions by various European composers of the 18 th and 19 th Century, the second with more contemporary pieces by American composers. In between the programs was an intermission during which the audience enjoyed delicious appetizers such as whole baked wheel of brie with pecan pralines, marinated grilled vegetables, rustic antipasto and three selections of sweet confections – fresh fruit tartlets, Key Lime spoons and mini eclairs. Audience members

Audience members were given two tickets each for complimentary glasses of wine and there was a cash bar available for those desiring to enjoy the music with a cocktail of their choice. All agreed that it was a most pleasant way to spend a late Sunday afternoon. The next show presented

The next show presented by the Cultural Enrichment Society will be Sunday, May 15, and will feature two exciting programs. Dr. Dennis Swanberg, America’s “Minister of Encouragement”, will entertain the audience with his down-home charm and heaping helping of hospitality. This Austin, Texas born pastor-turned-comedian has won the hearts of audiences across the country.

The second half of the May show will feature the music of Willow City.

One of the most unique family bands performing today, Willow City is comprised of four talented and creative siblings. These native Texans take the best parts of pop -- the catchiness, the energy -- and combines it with the best of folk -- the harmony, the sincerity -- for an infectious blend of dancelong/sing-along music. The show will begin at 4:30pm on Sunday, May 15, at the Horseshoe Bay Yacht Club ballroom. Admission is $45 per person and includes two tickets for complimentary wine as well as appetizers at intermission. Tickets for the show may be purchased on-line at www. hsbenrichment.org.
