A recent birth on his Burnet County ranch took on a more special meaning for Carl Chambers, who holds dual citizenship with the Cherokee Nation through his grandmother. Chambers, a breeder, has tried several combinations of mates amongst his herd of buffalo and this year, his work paid off with a rare white buffalo.

Burnet County launches jail mental health program

Burnet County is launching a program that could be at or near the cutting edge of mental health working with jail inmates. County commissioners on Tuesday approved an unpaid intern pro- gram that would put a mental health worker in the county jail to work with prisoners with mental health problems.

April is child abuse awareness month

Burnet County Com- missioners Court joined area child advocacy groups to proclaim April as National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. “We all must work to- gether to protect our chil dren and prevent Child Abuse in our community, and the first step is to pro vide awareness and edu- cation to all," according to a statement from Burnet County Child Welfare Board.
