Local Veterans Day events to honor military service

  • Col. Gail Wood will be speaking at the Rotary Veterans Day event which begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday Nov. 11 at the Rotary Veterans and First Responder Memorial at Johnson Park in Marble Falls. The Marble Falls Noon Rotary Club will host a Veterans Day program which will feature patriotic images and presentations as well as recognition honoring local veterans.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday Nov. 11 at the Rotary Veterans and First Responder Memorial at Johnson Park in Marble Falls.

The event will include a posting of the colors by Commander Wesley Lewis and the Marble Falls VFW POST 10376 Honor Guard.

St. Frederick Baptist Church Rev. George Perry, a U.S. Army veteran will lead the invocation. Rotarians will lead the event with the Pledge, reading of the Veterans Day Proclamation of 1954 and a rendition of Amazing Grace on bag pipes as well as Taps on bugle by a Marble Falls High School graduate.

Gail Wood is the featured speaker with a presentation about World War I to present day operations.

In other Veterans Day and weekend activities:

• A free Veterans Day Fishing Event is happening at Inks Dam National Fish Hatchery on Saturday, Nov. 13 with two sessions available.

The venue is located at 345 Clay Young Rd. The morning session is from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; The afternoon session is noon to 2:30 p.m.

Participants may bring their families to catch channel cats up to 9 pounds; Participants may keep two fish each.

Poles are provided if needed; All bait is provided. Fishing licenses are waived. Email prwyde@gmail.com with name, total number in the group, ages of children and which session requested.

• The Burnet County Republican Women will be meeting on Thursday, Nov. 11 and raising funds for the Warrior Defense Project. Guest speaker will be Army Veteran and State Representative Terry Wilson (Dist. 20) speaking about redistricting.

The meeting is Veterans Day at 11:30 a.m. at the Reed Building, 402 Jackson Street in Burnet. Lunch is $15.

The Caring for America November project will be accepting donations on behalf of the Warrior Defense Project.

• The Highland Lakes Republican Women of Llano County will be hosting a Veterans Day Lunch & Celebration Honoring All Who Served.

The event is at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the John L. Kuykendall Event Center, 2200 W. Highway 152 in Llano.

The event is free and will feature Alan Janson with the Texas Honor Guard, the Llano Jr. High School band, Llano Christian Academy and Quilts of Valor.

• The STAR Republican Women will host an event honoring veterans on Thursday, Nov. 11.

All veterans and their families are welcome for the free luncheon to be held at Quail Point, 107 Twilight, in Horseshoe Bay. The recognition is in partnership with the Horseshoe Bay Property Owners Association.
