If you live in Cottonwood Shores and care about the future of your city, mark Thursday, July 1 on your calendar. That’s when the city’s new master plan will be unveiled for public comment at the regular city council meeting.

The plan, which attempts to guide the city through the next 10 years, has gone through weeks of readings and amendments by council members. They feel the 69-page-long plan is now ready for residents to add their changes or additions.

A hearing on the plan is set for 6 p.m. at the Civic Center, 4111 Cottonwood Dr., as part of the regular council agenda. If there are no proposed changes, or if changes are minor, the council could formally adopt the plan at the same meeting.

However, several council members have pointed out that the plan can always be amended, either because of changing circumstances or simply if someone comes up with a new idea. It is only a guideline, they said.

The plan “sets the planning and [direction] of the City of Cottonwood Shores for the next 10 years, it affects every aspect of our community,” according to the city’s web site.

Copies of the plan are available at city hall, 3808 Cottonwood Dr. Copies can also be downloaded from the city’s web page, cottonwoodshores.org, and comments can be submitted to City Administrator J. C. Hughes at city.admin@cottonwoodshores.org.
