Llano ISD courts Horseshoe Bay for bond issue

School officials from Llano Independent School District (LISD) have reached out to Horseshoe Bay voters as an upcoming election holds the fate of a $39.8

million bond proposal.

The multi-million dollar bond issue will be on the May 6, 2023 ballot.

While a portion of Horseshoe Bay is in Bur net County, the vast majority of citizens reside within the Llano County side of the community which is part of the Llano ISD.

Llano ISD Superinten dent Mac Edwards traveled from Llano to present the details and purpose of the proposed bond on April 5 at Quail Point, a regular meeting venue for the Horseshoe Bay community.

The meeting lasted about an hour with an emphasis on “merits and use of this proposed bond and to answer any questions prior to voting,” explained Llano County Pct. 1 Commissioner Peter Jones in the announcement to residents.

School officials pre sented the bond package break down as follows: PROPOSITION A ($36.8 million)

 

• Packsaddle Elementary School: Addition of classrooms, cafeteria expansion, competition gym, new flooring and paint, practice field, playground, and parking as well as driving improvements

• Llano Elementary School: Gym remodel, canopy over the dropoff area, and playground improvements

• Llano Junior High School: Gym remodel, classroom improvements, flooring and paint, audito rium vestibule, and exterior entrance improvements

• Llano High School: New CTE Center, as well as new paint and flooring LISD District-wide Improvements:

• Resurfacing of foot- ball field and track, addi tional locker rooms and weight room, existing high school locker room remodel, and new sports lighting at sites across the District to support athletic programs

• Replacement of HVAC units that have reached their service life (ones that were not replaced in the previous bond program), mowers, maintenance equipment, as well as additions to the bus and white fleet for the entire District

• Safety and security upgrades:

• Camera systems

• Card readers

• Upgraded emergency notification systems

• Automatic locks and gates • Metal detector at the alternate school

• Replace the intercom system at Packsaddle Elementary School and Llano High School • Replace fire alarms at Packsaddle Elementary School and Llano High School PROPOSITION B ($2 million)

This proposition would address the current housing market that has placed homeownership out of the reach of many teachers and staff to include multifamily dwellings and single- family houses on property owned by the District PROPOSITION C ($1 million)

This proposition would endeavor to keep updated technology in the hands of Llano ISD’s students and staff to improve the academic performance of all the students we serve.

Early voting starts April 24 and goes through May 2.
