Two 'missing persons' marked safe after eclipse festival

Two families can rest easier now that their loved ones have returned safe, following an eclipse outdoor festival in Burnet County. Burnet County Sheriff’s Office investigators recently dealt with at least two cases when family members pleaded on social media and reached out to the agency for the whereabouts of young men in their 20s.

Special district aims at development

One ballot in the May 4 election seems shrouded in mystery. It’s one that would create the Cimarron Shores Water Control and Improvement District on 584 acres of land east of Marble Falls at Ranch Road 1431 and Hamilton Creek, opening it to development of as many as 400 homes.

Early voting in cities, schools starts April 22

Several important school district and municipal elections are scheduled for May 4 with early voting starting Monday. Granite Shoals, Marble Falls and Meadowlakes as well as a water district and Kingsland Municipal Utility District will hold elections.

City shifting budget funds

As part of its mid-year review of the city budget for Fiscal Year 2024, the Marble Falls City Council April 16 conducted its first reading of an ordinance to adopt several proposed amendments to the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) fund, the General Fund, the General Improvements Fund, the Hotel Conference Center fund and the Utility fund.

Alleged child traffickers enter guilty plea

A couple entered a guilty plea on human traf- ficking charges in connec tion with a north Burnet County counseling center for children, who were allegedly used to further for-profit businesses. In February, co-defendants Gary and Meghann Wiggins pled guilty in the 424th District Court of Burnet County to six counts each of trafficking of persons, each of which is a second-degree felony.

Nevada man dies at festival venue

A Nevada man in his 60s died April 7, at Reveille Peak Ranch, during the time the venue was hosting the Texas Eclipse Festival. Officials say the man was reportedly on a hike with other people when he suffered a “medical issue.” The death occurred at the height of the event coordinated to celebrate the total solar eclipse April 8.
