Faith Academy finishes sixth in meet

Faith Academy’s Faith Murphy set a school record with a 11:42.93 time for a first place overall medal in the Soldiers River City Believers Academy Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 24 in Selma. The previous record was held by Sophie Mc-Cannon with a time of 11:46.20. The girls team was sixth overall (167 points) in the field of 10 teams. ‘’Proud of Faith and her new school record,’’ said Faith coach Steve McCannon. “She was strong through the first mile and then began to separate for the win. She lowered her time by over 20 seconds. She works very hard and competes.’’ Girls 1. Faith Murphy, 11:42.93 35. Claire Poage, 14:10.36 49. Haley Kruger, 14:45.57 53. Kara Kwan, 15:00.85 55. Noah Fredrick, 21:25.21 “This was a very competitive meet with some quality teams as well as some teams we will see at our district,’’ said McCannon “We continue to improve but need to go up more notch to get ourselves in position when it really counts. We have put some good work in and will continue to fine tune as we head to district and state. We must be ready to compete.’’ Team ahead of the Flames were: 1. Bandera 37, 2. Randolph 50, 3. San Antonio Christian 100, 4. San Antonio FEAST 119, and 5. Lytle 165. “We have several girls who are new to cross country really drop their times and are starting to understand how to race and being part of the team concept,’’ McCannon said. “Cross country is the purest sport and they are buying in. That is a sign of a championship team and we look forward to giving ourselves a chance at state.’’

The boys are continuing to develop their

team. “We continue to build the boys team and look to be ready at district to defend our title,’’ McCannon said. The Flames will be at the Marble Falls high school meet Saturday, Oct. 1.
