Horseshoe Bay residents will be asked to stay off their cans — literally — a little longer the week of April 5 — at least until their city-provided, household trash containers are changed out from Republic blue to Waste Management green.

Winter Storm Uri did more than just cause electrical and water service disruptions and bring down tree limbs in Horseshoe Bay — it also impacted the city’s budget to the tune of $115,000 in overtime, supplies and repair costs, City Manager Stan Farmer said.

Horseshoe Bay City Council members declined Tuesday to extend a variance to a local builder that would allow him to build more than two speculative homes at one time. The action — or rather inaction — by the council came after Mayor Cynthia Clinesmith told contractor Dean Blaine of Grandview Homes that residents have asked city leaders to curb the city’s rate of growth to make sure it does not go unchecked.

The Horseshoe Bay City Council unanimously adopted a property tax rate of 27 cents per $100 valuation for fiscal year 2021 during their regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 15.
