City and school district debate truancy funding

Marble Falls City Council members balked at a request June 1 from the Marble Falls Independent School District to fund the entity’s case manager over truancy incidents. In years past, the district funded the $12,000 per year staff member – considered “mostly volunteer” at current budgeted salary – who works with the Marble Falls Municipal Court.

Municipal court to restart juries

Starting in May, the Marble Falls Municipal Court will lift the suspension of issuing warrants for failures to appear (FTAs) as well as relaunch in-person hearings and jury trials, officials said. During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns and restrictions, the local court shifted resources from in-person legal proceedings to online, telephone services and mail services while minimizing contact with the public.
