Burnet County candidates toss hats into races

Candidate applications ended Dec.11 for the Democratic and Republican Party primaries set for March 5, 2024.

There will be a presidential election next year. According to the Texas Secretary of State website, Democrats Gabriel A. Cornejo, Robert Star Locke, Frankie Lozada, Armando “Mando” Perez- Serrato, Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson plan to oppose incumbent Democrat President Joseph Biden for re-nomination.

The same website indicates Ryan L. Binkley of McKinney plans to run for the Republican presidential nomination.

Meanwhile, Republican hopefuls Holland “Redd” Gibson of Houston and R.E. “Rufus” Lopez of San Antonio plan to run during the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate Texas seat held by incumbent Ted Cruz.

In the Democratic party, Colin Allred of Dallas, Mark Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Heli Rodriguez Prilliman of Fort Worth and Carl Oscar Sherman of DeSoto plan to run against each other for the right to vie against the eventual U.S. Senate Republican candidate.

All 38 Texas seats in the U.S. Congress are up for election. In U.S. District 31, (which includes Burnet County) Republicans William Abel and John Carnan Anderson plan to oppose incumbent John Carter for re-election.

Also running for the Texas congressional District 31 seat are Democrats Rick Von Pfeil, Brian Walbridge and Stuart Winslow.

All 150 seats in the Texas House of Representatives are scheduled for election.

In District 19, which represents Burnet County, Republican Kyle Biedermann will oppose Republican incumbent Ellen Troxclair for re-election. Also in District 19, Dwain Handley and Zach Vance plan to seek the Democratic nomination.

Texas Supreme Court places 2, 4 and 6 are up for election during 2024.

Place 2 Republican incumbent Jimmy Blacklock plans to run against Democratic opponents, either Dasean Jones or Randy Sarosdy.

Place 4 Republican incumbent John Devine will oppose Democrat Christine Vinh Weems and Place 6 Republican incumbent Jane Bland will oppose Democrat Bonnie Lee Goldstein during the November election.

No Democratic candidates have filed for any Burnet County office.

On the other hand, several Burnet County Republican candidates have tossed their hats into the ring for the March 5 primary.

County Attorney Eddie Arredondo plans to seek re-election, as does Sheriff Calvin Boyd and Burnet County Pct.1 Commissioner Jim Luther Jr.

Caleb Carrasco, Chad Collier, Joseph Rosser, Homer D. Will and Cord Woerner plan to run for Pct. 3 county commissioner.

Candidates Susan Allen, Adrienne Feild and DeAnne Fisher plan to run for County tax assessor.

Leslie Ray plans to be re-elected as the Pct. 1 constable. Garry Adams and Brian Knowles plan to run for Pct. 2 constable. Scott Davis seeks election to a full-term as Pct. 3 constable. Currently, Davis is serving the unexpired term of Chip Leake, who retired last year. Also, Millicent “Missy” Bindseil seeks re-election as the Pct. 4 constable.
