Groundwater board set to propose FY 2024 tax rate

The Central Texas Groundwater District Board plans to hold a public hearing related to the tax rate proposed for the upcoming Fiscal Year 20232024, set to begin Oct. 1. The meeting is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 15 in Burnet at the district office, 225 S. Pierce, Suite 104. District board members plan to propose a tax rate of .0055 per $100 of property valuation, according to the hearing notice. The proposed rate for FY 2024 is less than the current rate of .0057, ac - cording to district officials. Also, the FY 2024 proposed rate of .0055 is less than the voter-approval rate of .0060. Meaning, if adopted by the board, the rate of .0055 would not require approval by public election. The proposed rate is based on properties within the district assessed currently at more than $712,000 by the Burnet Central Appraisal District, an increase of more than 13% since last year.
