Burnet County residents have a chance to get rid of their old tires, household chemicals and other hazardous items on their property during a collection event on Saturday, Oct. 15. The event is scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Crews will collect a wide variety of household hazardous waste at the Burnet County Reuse and Recycle Center, 2411 FM 963 in Burnet.

The aim is to properly dispose of items to keep them from potentially seeping toxins into water resources.

Officials ask that participants bring products in the original containers only; do not mix or consolidate products; properly seal containers to prevent leaking; and haul containers in the trunk or back of vehicles away from passengers.
