An incumbent state representative believes she has proven herself for a second term in office, while also securing an endorsement from a top Texas leader.

State Representative Ellen Troxclair (HD-19) has ann ounced she is running to win again the Republican party nomination for her seat as well as the general election.

“After just one year in office, I've accomplished for the Hill Country the biggest tax cut in American history, a huge reduction in Robin Hood taxation scheme, defended the innocence of our children against explicit material and gender modification, saved women’s sports, and ensured that $6 Billion in border control funding is headed to stop the flow of illegal immi grants and deadly drugs,” she said in a statement to The Highlander. “I kept my campaign promises, and I am excited for the opportunity to return to the Capitol to continue the fight for conservative Tex as Hill Country values.

As the filing got under - way Nov. 11. Troxclair re ceived a key endorsement.

“Ellen is a staunch conservative and a fierce advocate for Tex ans across House District 19," Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement in November. “She helped deliver crucial Republican victories to secure our border, cut property taxes, and empower parents with the support they need to ensure their children succeed, in and out of the classroom.

“Texas needs Ellen’s continued leadership, and I am proud to endorse her for re-election. Please join me in supporting Representative Troxclair for re-election,” he added.

During the general election in 2022 Troxclair won her first term in office by 72.67% (47,869 votes) to 27.33% (26,450 votes) against her Democratic opponent Pam Baggett.

The win came on the heels of a contentious 2022 primary election. In a runoff, she defeated Republican primary opponent Justin Berry, 56% (12,573) to 43% (9,677) of the vote.

In the face of potential challengers again during the primaries, she stated she believes her record will rise above detractors. (See related story on Biedermann on Page 1).

“HD19 deserves a reliable voice of integrity, for a stronger Texas,” she stated.

The newly-redrawn district takes in a large swath of Central Texas and the Hill Country, including the counties of Blanco, Burnet, Gillespie and Kendall as well as areas in and around Lakeway and Lago Vista in western Travis County. Troxclair’s background includes serving for 10 years as a chief of staff in the Texas House, before starting her own small business. She was elected to a stint on the Austin City Council where she served as the lone conservative. She later worked as a Senior Fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation (a conservative think-tank), where she assisted in writing public policy, and wrote a bestselling book inspiring more conservative women to get involved in policy and politics.

The candidates filing period ends on Dec. 11.

The primary election is Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

The general election is Nov. 5, 2024.
