Beach and grass area seatring may be all sold out, but plenty of general admission tickets are still available for the Marble Falls Lakefest boat races, which return to action this weekend, Aug. 6-8, after a three-year hiatus.
Drag boats will turn Lake Marble Falls into a liquid race track as they zoom to adrenaline-pumping, heart-pounding speeds of 200 mph during this fun event being sponsored by the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Southern Drag Boat Association.
The fun begins Friday, Aug. 6, with the Show & Shine from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Johnson Park. This is a free event, open to the public, which allows visitors and locals the opportunity to get an “insider look” at this extreme sport. Drag boats will be on display and attendees can meet and greet the drivers.
Gates open at Lakeside Park at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, for the qualifying rounds. The call to lanes will be issued at 8:30 a.m., followed by competition in the Sportsman classes at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and the Pro classes at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. General admission tickets to these races are $20 per person ($10 for kids ages 7-12, $15 for veterans and seniors 60+, children 6 and under free with paid admission).
Meanwhile, there will also be a Market Day at Lakefest being held with free entry from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Marble Falls Skate Park next to Johnson Park on Avenue J. Vendor booths will offer a wide variety of goods and treats for sale throughout the day.
Sunday, Aug. 8, is what sets champions apart from also-rans when the elimination races begin at Lakeside Park. Again, gates open at 7 a.m. and races will go from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission tickets to these races are $20 per person ($10 for kids ages 7-12, $15 for veterans and seniors 60+, children 6 and under free with paid admission).
Finally, the awards ceremony starts at 5 p.m. at Johnson Park and entry is free. Winners will be recognized and crowned at the Johnson Park outdoor stage.
