Marble Falls ISD Board of Trustees approved an expanded interlocal agreement on Oct. 17 with the city of Marble Falls and added the city of Granite Shoals to the deal for the district's school resource officer program.

“This partnership demonstrates a shared level of commitment to school safety, community policing, and opportunities to strengthen trust between the community members and the organizations that serve them,” said MFISD Superintendent Chris Allen, in a statement.

There are currently two SRO officers in the program. The approval expands the number to five.

Marble Falls ISD will contribute to the city of Marble Falls $102,000 per year for four SROs and $59,800 per year for one SRO provided by the city of Granite Shoals, officials said.

“District leadership continues to explore partnerships that will enhance school safety and encourage positive relationships in the community,” Allen stated.

An effort to broker an agreement for a dedicated officer for Spicewood Elementary School is pending.

“Discussion with the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office to secure an SRO for county schools is ongoing,” Allen explained.
