As rampant electricity outages plagued the city of Marble Falls on Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, several motorists navigated a US 281 on their way to work or to get essential items.
Traffic signals on roadways including US 281, RR 1431 either flashed red and yellows or failed to work altogether for much of the morning.
Authorities issued travel warnings due to several inches of overnight snow — reports of 5- to 7-inches throughout Burnet County — as well as freezing temperatures that hovered in the upper teens for much of the morning.
In some areas, vehicles slipped or fishtailed.
By daybreak a lone vehicle which was unoccupied rested in a ditch on the east side of US 281, adjacent to the intersection of RR 1855 (Fairland Road). So far, no reports of life-threatening incidents on the roadways in the early morning hours.
As traffic picked up between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., roadways became packed with primarily dry snow.
By 10 a.m. temperatures inched their way up to lower 20s.
The Texas Department of Public Safety as well as Burnet County Sheriff’s Office and Marble Falls police patrolled much of the southern end of the county for motorist assistance.
