Honorable William Randolph “Randy” Savage

The Honorable William Randolph “Randy” Savage, age 76, of Meadowlakes, Texas, joined his heavenly Father on Sunday, February 7, 2021, in Temple, Texas. Randy was born on March 2, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska, to his parents William Clifford “Jim” Savage and Nelda Leila Steward Savage, who preceded him in death. He was raised in Houston, Texas. After graduation from Spring Branch High School in 1962, he attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Economics. He earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence at the University of Texas Law School in Austin, Texas, in 1969. On June 9, 1967, Randy and Kathy married in Houston, Texas, at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Together, they raised four wonderful sons.

Prior to beginning his career as an attorney, he and his wife taught school in Weslaco, Texas, where Randy also coached football. His professional career began in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he first worked for the Small Business Administration after Hurricane Celia and then worked for a private attorney in Corpus. In the early 1970s, Randy and Kathy moved to the Texas Hill Country, and he set up his own private practice in Marble Falls that lasted for 30 years. Randy became the first elected Burnet County Court at Law Judge, a position that he proudly and capably held for 12 years.

It was important to Randy to take an active role in his community. He helped to restore and fund the City-owned depot, enabling its use as a Chamber of Commerce building. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, vice-president and president of the Burnet County Bar Association, and president of the Hill Country Bar Association. He was a member of the State Bar Association, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the Texas Center for the Judiciary, and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He served as alderman on the Marble Falls City Council, president of the Noon Rotary Club where he had proudly logged 47 years of perfect attendance, mayor of Meadowlakes, and legal counsel for Meadowlakes POA. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pi Gamma Mu, Kappa Alpha Order, the Masonic Lodge, and Chief Honcho of Howdy Roo.

Randy always maintained an excellent work ethic, and his clients and colleagues held him in high regard during his 50 years in the law profession as an honest, fair, and impartial attorney and judge. He treated all people with respect. He was known to lighten up a stressful situation with humor, often telling a few funny stories or jokes.

His family was all-important to Randy. Among his favorite activities, he coached his sons’ soccer and Little League baseball teams, took his family camping in the summers, held deer leases so he and his sons could hunt (although he never shot a deer), took trips to casinos with his brother-in-law, went on numerous cruises with family and friends, and always enjoyed his trips to Missouri to see his Steward cousins. Other activities he enjoyed were playing Shanghai, reading, and working in his yard. He was known for his Super Bowl parties, which were for men only. He hosted these for 40 years, and once someone was invited, he had a standing invitation for the coming years. This year, Randy celebrated Super Bowl Sunday in heaven.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathryn Pryor Alger Savage, and his sons and their families: Michael and Laura Savage and children Palmer, Sarah, and Ryan; Greg and Erin Savage and children Lauren and Faye; Jeffrey Savage and children Poppy and Tom; and Robert Savage. He’s also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Savage Fletcher, her husband Michael C. Fletcher and their family: Christian and Kathy Fletcher and children Grant and Keis; Collin and Allison Fletcher and children Genevieve and Wesley; Austin and Melissa Fletcher and son Landon; Michelle and Art Jimenez and children Noah, Evelyn, and Elijah. Finally, Randy is survived by his Aunt Margaret Savage and sons Jack and David as well as his Steward cousins: Dick, Mark, Bill, Mary, and Anne and their families, and by his numerous dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls from 5:00 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 20, 2021.
