October 20, 1925 — January 11, 2023

Joel Daniel Alderson, 98, of Smithwick, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on January 11, 2024. He was born in Tuscola, Texas, on October 20, 1925, to parents Joel Andrew Alderson and Lizzie Adaline Brewer Alderson. He grew up during the hardships of the Great Depression and cotton farming.

Joe was inducted into the U.S. Army on December 21, 1943. Shortly before his departure to Germany, he married the love of his life, Nila Lavita Jackson of Smithwick, Texas, on September 6, 1944.

In October of 1944, he was assigned to Company C, 260th Engineer Combat Battalion and received two Bronze Service Stars.

During active duty, he had the honor of meeting General Patton. This was a highlight for Joe. He was a proud World War II Veteran. Joe was raised as a Master Mason in the Henry Thomas Masonic Lodge in Smithwick, Texas. He also was an organizer and director of the Marble Falls National Bank in 1981.

When Joe returned from the service, he went to work for Southwestern Graphite of Burnet for five years, R.E. Janes Gravel Co. for five and a half years, then the Pure Stone Company of Marble Falls, (now known as J.M.

Huber).

He eventually retired as general manager after 32 years and continued as a consultant for the next five years.

After retirement, Joe and Nila were members of the RV Club, Royal Rovers. They enjoyed many years of traveling with the club and made many long-time friends.

In his retirement he enjoyed gardening, canning, entertaining grandkids in the summers, spending time in his shop, barbequing, and fishing.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, brother Damon Alderson, and sisters Ruby Green, Lyda Mae Green, Ethel Tucker, Nora Lacy, and Ada Ruth Goble.

Joe is survived by his wife, Nila; brother, Archie Lee Alderson; daughters, Rhonda Bishop (Earl), and Sharon Pelky; grandchildren, Melissa Baxley (James), Earl D.

Bishop (Amy), Phillip Pelky, and Amanda Hibler (Bryan); five great grandchildren, Morgan, Tyler, Cade, Cole and Clay, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be January 17, 2023, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be January 18, 2023, at 11:00 am, also at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Smithwick Cemetery.
