February 26, 1933 — November 6, 2023

Kenneth Dale Hare Sr. passed away peacefully at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Marble Falls Texas, surrounded by family on November 6, 2023 at 11:20 AM.

He was 90 years old.

His wife, Doreen Hare, preceded him in death by seven years, seven months and seventeen days. His nickname being 'Rabbit,' was born February 26, 1933 in Amarillo Texas, to the parents of Lamont M. Hare and Ruby Martin.

He is survived by two half-brothers, Randell and Glenard Hare.

As a boy, growing up in Pueblo Colorado, he rode horses, read at night by oil lantern and trudged through knee deep snow to reach the schoolhouse and outhouse. In other words, his youth was from another time long past.

He joined the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950's at twenty years of age.

His first duty assignment was in Margate England, where he met and married our mother, Doreen Howell Hare. They traveled extensively and lived in many different countries. The Air Force is where his love affair with aircraft began. He earned his private pilots license in the 1960's and bought his first plane, the 'Luscombe.' He loved to fly. Uncle Sam then called him to serve a tour of duty in Vietnam from 196768. After twenty-one years in the Air Force he retired from the military in 1973 to settle down in Kingsland, Texas.

Being very patriotic, Rabbit became a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. But his true calling was Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 198 in Kingsland, where he gave 30 years of volunteer service to the organization.

Serving as the Chapter's Commander for several years. Something else he enjoyed doing around Christmas was playing Santa Claus for underprivileged children.

Handing out donated gifts from the DAV. He also volunteered considerable years to locally coaching and umpiring for Little League Baseball games. In his later years he became an ordained Christian Minister, preaching the Good Book at churches, funerals, weddings and his 'Freedom of the Word,' radio station. One of his favorite churches was at Wake Point on Sunday mornings with services by Minister 'Allen Reed.'

In his latter years, Rabbit began playing shuffleboard and loved the game so much, it became his favorite past time hobby. If you ask any friend he ever played, they will tell you he was hard to beat. If you happen to drop by for a visit at his final resting place and discover a shuffleboard puck on his granite bench, then you'll know he's still playing his favorite game in Heaven.

Rabbit is survived by one daughter, Dorina Hare Jones and three sons, Kenny and Gary Hare and Lyle Bennet. His grandchildren are Jesika Hare, Shey Gibbs and Zakkery Barr. His great grandchildren are Echo, Epic, Eleven, Frey and Braxton. Rabbit will be greatly missed and always lovingly remembered.

A special Memorial Service will be held for Rabbit at 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Wake Point in Kingsland on Sunday the 3rd of December with an ice cream social afterwards. His Celebration Of Life get-together will be the day before his birthday, Sunday the 25th of February 2024 from 2:004:00 PM at Pats Bar and Grill with BBQ.

His cremated ashes along with our mother's will be laid to rest at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park with family and close friends. Date and time to yet be determined.
