Robert L. Spiers, loving husband, father, father-inlaw, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, departed this world on January 5, 2024, after facing a battle with pneumonia. At 89 years old, Bobby passed away peacefully in Marble Falls, Texas, surrounded by many family members.

Bobby’s journey began on January 13, 1934.

Born in Longview Texas, Bobby moved to Liberty at the age of one and lived there for ten years. He then moved to Ker-mit, Texas and attended Kermit High School where he was a member of the Varsity tennis and basketball teams and was runner up in the state tennis championships in 1952.

After graduating from high school, he pursued higher education at Tarleton State University where he was a member of the Varsity basketball and tennis teams. He then transferred to Texas Tech University, where he was a member of the Varsity tennis team with his brother, Dick Spiers.

While in college, he was the runner up in the Texas Open Tennis Championships in 1956. Bobby continued to play tennis competitively throughout West Texas into his late forties, winning many tournaments. Following Texas Tech, he graduated from Sul Ross State University with a degree in Business Administration. He later married Annette Bailey on June 29, 1957, in Wink, Texas.

Bobby’s professional life led him into the oil business, where his dedication and hard work defined his career until his well-earned retirement in 1997. Having lived in Kermit, Borger, Abilene and Andrews, Texas, Bobby made Odessa his home from 1968 to 1998.

He and Annette moved to Kingsland, Texas in 1998.

An avid golfer and fisherman, Bobby found joy in the great outdoors, creating lasting memories during camping trips and fishing excursions with family and friends. His passion for these activities reflected his adventurous spirit and the importance he placed on quality time with the people he loved.

Bobby was also a talented investor with a keen eye for the stock market. In an era dominated by digital screens, Bobby adhered to the old-fashioned method of tracking his stocks by diligently recording his investments in paper notebooks.

Bobby, a highly skilled golfer, demonstrated his proficiency on the course by accomplishing the remarkable feat of shooting his age twice at the age of 72. Additionally, he celebrated the rare achievement of making two hole-in-ones during his retirement. Bobby was also a devoted fan of the San Antonio Spurs, never missing a game on TV.

Bobby cherished sharing his tales with anyone willing to lend an ear, spending numerous hours in storytelling sessions with his family and friends. For over five decades, Bobby found delight in the ritual of daily coffee gatherings, where he shared and listened to entertaining stories with his devoted coffee buddies in both Odessa and Kingsland.

While we mourn the loss of a beloved patriarch, we celebrate the life of Robert L. Spiers and the enduring love he shared with those fortunate enough to be a part of his journey.

Bobby’s departure is preceded by his parents, Robert A. and Lorena Spiers, and his brother, Dick Spiers.

Bobby is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Annette, with whom he shared many memorable moments throughout their life together. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: Kirk and wife Rhonda Spiers of Caddo, Oklahoma; Kevin and wife Darla Spiers of Austin, Texas; Tracy and wife Cynthia Spiers of Spicewood, Texas. Bobby’s memory is also carried on by his grandchildren Aaron Spiers of Bokchito, Oklahoma; Alisha Perez of Cedar Park, Texas; Brittany Carroll of Austin, Texas, and Jay Spiers of Austin, Texas; as well as seven great-grandchildren, JJ, Zoey, Kaylee, Briar, Christopher, Blakely, Ellie.
