Marble Falls boys team takes district crown

The Marble Falls boys cross country team captured the District 24-4A title Monday, Oct. 10 at the Marble Falls course.

The Mustangs scored 38 points to arch rival Burnet’s 58 to capture its district crown.

On a sultry morning in October the boys rose to the challenge.

The Mustangs were led by sophomore Tyler Hamblin and supported by Junior Nick Dahl.

Marble Falls’ Hamblin and Dahl finished in third and fourth, respectively.

Hamblin ran a 16:25 time in the 5K race. Dahl ran a 16:49.

Rounding out the team were Blake Cockrell in sixth at 17:32, Marco Almazan in 12th at 18:23, Ezekiel Atkinson 13th at 18:24 and Hunter Holder in 35th at 21Ú57.

Hudson Bennett of Burnet took first individually in 16:05.

The Regional III-4A Championships are Monday, Oct. 24 at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. The 4A races begin at 8 a.m. and will run back-to-back.

The top four teams to finish at Regionals plus the next 10 individuals not on one of those teams will advance to the state meet.

The state meet is set for the first weekend in November at Round Rock’s Old Settlers Park.

Burnet’s girls’ team won the girls varsity with 40 points. Lago Vista scored 62 for second and Georgetown Gateway took third with 88 points.

Finishing behind the Mustangs in the boys varsity were Burnet with 58 points and Lampasas with 71 points.
