Burnet County Commissioners approved unanimously a resolution March 9 declaring its status as a “2A Sanctuary County,” becoming the 75th entity in the state to do so. The declaration, stating that “Burnet County supports the Second Amendment,” was passed as a statement to reject federal laws passed to limit the ability of citizens to obtain, bear and/or possess firearms and ammunition as well as to be free of regulation that would limit their ability to do so.

Burnet County elected officials were sworn into office for their new term on Friday, Jan. 1, at the Burnet County Courthouse. Among those who took a new oath for the new year are, from left, Precinct 1 Commissioner Jim Luther Jr., 33rd District Judge Allan Garrett, District Attorney Wiley “Sonny” McAfee, County Attorney Eddie Arredondo, Tax Assessor-Collector Sheri Frazier, Sheriff Calvin Boyd and Precinct 3 Commissioner Billy Wall.

A large increase in new construction in Burnet County, coupled with increases in the values of existing properties, will allow the county to give all county employees a two percent raise and still end the year with an $18.37 million fund balance on hand in case of emergencies, according to the budget adopted Tuesday, Aug. 25. Burnet County budget keeps same tax rate for 2020-21

Burnet County commissioners unanimously adopted the same tax rate of 39.99 cents per SIOO assessed valuation for the upcoming fiscal year and approved a fiscal year 2020-21 proposed budget that calls for $43.66 million in overall revenues against overall expenses (general fund plus debt service plus road and bridge) of$31.28 million.
