From agency representatives throughout the region to long-time civil servants, about 200 people joined the friends and loved ones of Marble Falls Police Chief Mark Whitacre for his retirement event June 25 at Lakeside Pavilion.

Following an agreement with parties involved, an Austin district judge has dismissed a civil lawsuit May 31 that would, in essence, end an aggregate company’s planned operation adjacent to a fledgling housing development in Marble Falls.

Marble Falls City Council members balked at a request June 1 from the Marble Falls Independent School District to fund the entity’s case manager over truancy incidents. In years past, the district funded the $12,000 per year staff member – considered “mostly volunteer” at current budgeted salary – who works with the Marble Falls Municipal Court.

Marble Falls Police Chief Mark Whitacre will retire this month after cultivating a 35- year career of improvements in agency staffing, facilities, resources and community policing. Whitacre joined the department in December 1985, where over the years he was lieutenant, captain, assistant chief and eventually appointed chief Oct.

The heart of Marble Falls will be busy this coming weekend with two family-oriented events. First, the city of Marble Falls is hosting a night out and camp in Johnson Park Friday and Saturday, June 4 and 5.

Local businesses, including Texas Elite Meat, have participated in the Marble Falls Farmers Market. The next event is this Thursday, May 27 at third and Main Street downtown.
