LCRA to spruce park spaces

On Friday, April 9, LCRA employees will work on five community projects in Burnet and Llano counties as part of LCRA’s annual Steps Forward Day. During the day of service, volunteers will work on more than 30 projects throughout the LCRA service territory.

Tests show algae producing toxins in Highland Lakes

Highland Lakes residents are being strongly urged not to let their dogs play near or ingest algae in any of the lakes controlled by the Lower Colorado River Authority. Test results received back Tuesday, March 23, from samples of blue-green algae taken on March 16-17 from five Highland Lakes — Buchanan, Inks, LBJ, Marble Falls and Travis — detected the presence of cyanotoxins in the samples from Inks Lake, Lake Marble Falls and Lake Travis.

LCRA responds to shoreline access concerns

The Lower Colorado River Authority stood its ground on restricting foot traffic on the entity’s property to the public seeking access to a popular fishing hole near Max Starcke Dam. “The property immediately adjacent to Starcke Dam is a restricted area to protect public safety and the security of the dam,” LCRA spokeswoman Clara Tuma said in a statement.

Collier responds to LCRA decision

Yesterday (Feb. 24), Collier Materials, Inc was advised of a decision by the LCRA Board to set a moratorium on commercial dredging or mining within the Highland Lakes. We are surprised and disappointed in the unexpected delay at the last moment! For the last 9 months we have worked closely with the staff of the LCRA and our engineers have worked diligently to fully comply with all of the regulations.

LCRA donates to MFalls pantry

The Helping Center in Marble Falls is one of 26 food banks which received an early Christmas present from the Lower Colorado River Authority this past week. And even more exciting than that $1,000 gift from LCRA is that the Marble Falls-area non-profit food bank is expected to start 2021 off Jan.

LCRA delays drawdown until 2022

The Lower Colorado River Authority does not plan to draw down any of the pass-through lakes in the Highland Lakes chain in 2021. This applies to lakes Inks, LBJ, Marble Falls and Austin.

Summertime weather pattern coming to end

Two strong cold fronts which moved in Friday and early Monday have finally bring a noticeable change from the late summer weather we have been experiencing for most of October. In addition to the change in temperature behind the fronts, an overrunning pattern next week looks to bring our region the first decent chance for rain in over a month.
