Vulnerable wait for COVID-19 vaccine access

Burnet County residents — especially those over 65 or who carry additional health risks — are still waiting to find out when they can start receiving doses of one of the two COVID-19 vaccines currently approved by the Food & Drug Administration. Last month, the State Department of Health Services confirmed the county had been allocated 1,300 doses of the Moderna vaccine, with 600 doses shipped to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Marble Falls; 300 doses shipped to Ascension Seton Highland Lakes Hospital in Burnet; 200 doses to Atkins Pharmacy in Marble Falls; and 100 doses each sent to the H-E-B pharmacies in Marble Falls and Burnet.

Personnel from Marble Falls Fire Rescue received their coronavirus vaccinations Dec. 29 in an effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. As part of a tiered distribution process, the Moderna vaccine was shipped first to hospitals and clinics, free-standing emergency rooms, EMS providers, pharmacies and health departments.

Local virus test sites expanded

Local residents will have three opportunities each week this month to get a rapid result COVID-19 test as the cities of Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay will host community testing sites. The announcement of additional testing sites comes as both Burnet and Llano counties have seen increases in the number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases, including one more death attributed to the novel coronavirus.

Virus testing continues on Wednesdays in Marble Falls

The state division of emergency management is continuing another round of COVID-19 testing on Wednesdays. The tests are being conducted at the Marble Falls Fire Rescue fire hall, 700 Avenue N, and allow a drive through system. The remaining free test dates are Wednesday, Oct. 21, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
