Miniature donkeys soothe the soul in Spicewood

Body
Rhetta McAlister, the owner of Country Music Miniature Donkeys, located in Spicewood, Texas, believes that miniature donkeys’ quiet, gentle, and patient disposition makes them ideal companions for lonely animals and people of all ages, including the elderly and handicapped. Often when alpacas, horses, llamas, goats, or calves are raised in a pen alone, they develop undesirable habits. Due to their nature, miniature donkeys also make perfect companions for other animals and may pass on their desirable traits. The donkeys are native to the Mediterranean Islands of Sicily and Sardinia, reaching a mature height of 29” -32” at the withers. Because they are docile and so easily trained, they are suited for carrying small children or pulling carts. The average weight is 200 pounds, and the donkeys have a life expectancy of 25-30 years. Legend states that the dark stripe that forms a cross down the back and across the shoulders is a sign that these donkeys have been touched by the hand of God. Many believe that the donkey who carried Jesus on Palm Sunday could not bear to leave his side. When Jesus went to the cross, although the animal could not stand the sight of it, he stayed until the sun crossed the sky, and the shadow of the cross was forever burned into his coat like a brand. Oddly enough, no two stripes are the same. Numerous other stories and legends illustrate the special place miniature donkeys hold in the history of our world.
