The growing popularity of natural products is contributing to the growth in cottage businesses that specialize in cosmetics derived from goat’s milk.

For many, commercially produced soaps and moisturizers that contain harsh surfactants either strip the skin of its natural moisture or trigger allergic reactions.

The answer for some is moving to a product like those made from goat’s milk with high amounts of fats.

Certain fats have been shown to help maintain the skin’s natural moisture while maintaining a healthy balance of natural lipids.

Lipids may improve the skin’s barrier against pathogens contributing to skin disorders like acne and eczema.

For Jordynn McKeown, developer of “Momma Sophies,” a line of lotions, soaps, and lip balms produced from goat’s milk, making these products began as a way to alleviate boredom when she first decided to become a stay-at-home mom. It all started with Jordynn’s best friend’s parents, who had goats.

Her first one, a Nubian, was a “bottle baby goat.” She soon found that she had a lot of goat’s milk and needed a way to use it to eliminate waste.

Jordynn began with making soap utilizing standard recipes. She discovered that she liked to experiment and developed some of her own formulas. The name Momma Sophies came from her first goat, who was also the first to have babies, subsequently nicknamed Momma Sophie. Her next venture was body lotions. She has produced lotion fragrances like Sandalwood Vanilla, Lavender, and Sweet Orange.

Her products are all natural and organic, and the lip balms are unscented.

However, she sometimes produces holiday offerings like a Cranberry Lip Balm or a Peppermint Lotion. Jordynn is a mom who homeschools three children and would eventually like to expand her line into facial moisturizers and bath products.

You can purchase her creations on Facebook and have them shipped or arrange a delivery. To order contact Jordynn at jordynnmckeown@gmail.com.
