Two Llano County residents went head-to-head touting prosecutorial experience, with a former assistant district attorney winning the primary election, according to preliminary results from the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.
Perry Thomas defeated Marie Primm March 5 to become the presumptive district attorney for the 33rd/424th Judicial District, the results indicated.
As of 10:30 p.m. on election night, vote totals showed Thomas received 8,337 (5383%) votes, while Primm captured 7,151 (46.17%) of the vote.
Thomas operates the Law office of Perry Thomas in Burnet and Llano with 28 years experience in prosecution. He resides in Llano and has lived in the community for nine years.
He was first assistant district attorney under District Attorney Wiley “Sonny” McAfee for four years from December 2014 to April 2019. The district includes Blanco, Burnet, Llano and San Saba counties.
Primm moved to Sunrise Beach in February 2023 with the goal of lending her expertise to the area.
Currently, she works for the Texas Office of the Attorney General in the criminal prosecution division, specializing in capital murder cases. There, she has practiced in a special prosecutor's unit for nearly two years.
McAfee did not run for re-election.
Thomas is expected to fill the position after the November general election. No Democrats filed to run for the position.
