Commissioners Court approved Oct. 17 the appointment of an investigator with the local DA’s office as the new precinct 3 constable.

Commissioners selected 30-year law enforcement veteran Scott Davis, during a special meeting Monday, Oct. 17. Davis has been with the 33rd/424th District Attorney’s Office in Burnet since July 2021. Prior to that, he worked for the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office for two years. He served as a lawman with the Houston Police Department in the early 1990s as well.

The bulk of his career he worked in his hometown of Conroe for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department from 1994 to 2015. “I think that all the years of experience I’ve gained through the years would help me make a difference in that precinct,” Davis told The Highlander. His law enforcement experience includes working as an investigator for the Williamson County DA’s office, prior to settling in Burnet County.

He will work in the local DA’s office for another two weeks before taking over as constable for precinct 3 on Nov. 1.

“It’s been a pleasure. It was a very hard decision to make,” he said. “My family and I decided this was the best opportunity for me to serve the constituents of Burnet County.” Unexpired term; Davis will fill the unexpired four-year term of Chip Leake, whose retirement is effective Oct. 31. Leake’s voluntary retirement is connected to a personal family matter, officials said.

The current term will go through Dec. 31, 2024, Oakley said.

Davis says he expects to run for re-election in two years.
