Each year around several holidays including New Year's in Texas, residents can purchase fireworks for a period of time throughout the Hill Country.

One of the most notable stands just outside Marble Falls is located on U.S. 281 north in the 5200 block. Although one may not find stands in the Granite Shoals area, several line RR 1431 in Kingsland.

Pyrotechnic merchants have been allowed to sell them since Dec. 20 in unincorporated areas with their usual permitting process.

However, no municipalities allow for discharging or transporting fireworks in their city limits – except one – Granite Shoals.

In spite of a heated debate over safety, city leaders there opted to allow it, however encouraged residents to report debris which infiltrates their private property.

Revelers should pay heed to at least one new state law – House Bill 2366. The rule now enhances criminal penalties for the use of fireworks to harm or obstruct the police.
