With some of the coldest temperatures so far being predicted, it might be wise to review a few safety precautions with you.

Space heaters are handy to keep us warm in the winter months.

However, they do not have the highest reputation for being safe to use, but by following some simple precautions, they will remain safe:

Ensure that you keep the heater at least 3 feet away from flammable materials such as blankets and curtains.

Place the heater on a flat and stable surface in a low-traffic area of your home. Make sure it is not blocking an exit.

Never operate your heater near water.

Never use an extension cord, always plug your heater directly into the outlet.

Never leave your heater unattended; turn it off when you go to bed at night.

Make sure that you use your fireplace with a working carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector.

Sewer Plant

The city of Meadowlakes engineer and staff are working on completing this project within the allocated funds.

The two bids received in September were at least three times the funds allocated for the project and were rejected. We hope to have a doable plan shortly after the first of the year.

Tennis Facility

The Meadowlakes City Council will consider leasing the tennis facility to a third party who will be responsible for the facility's management and maintenance. It was imperative during negotiations that the citizens of Meadowlakes be allowed to utilize the courts free of charge and have priority on scheduling a court.

Ordinance 2022-06

The council will consider modifying the city's rate order to reflect the additional 3% increase in solid waste collection fees approved last month. Our existing contract with Waste Management already had a 3% increase factored in, which would have been effective January 1, 2023. However, the existing Rate Order did reflect the additional increase approved by the Council last month. Ordinance 2022-06 would adjust the monthly charge for solid waste collection by $1.36 per month, bringing the monthly residential rate to $23.96 effective January 1, 2023

Cat Code

Don't forget to register your cats. Please be aware that it is against city ordinances to feed feral cats; if you are feeding or providing custodial care to them, it is your responsibility to register them.

Holiday Closures

City Hall will be closed the following days; however, on-call personnel will take your emergency calls.

-December 23rd and 26th – Christmas observance

- January 2, 2022 – New Year's observance
