More than 40 years after their Regional playoff run, the 1979 Marble Falls boys basketball team will celebrate Coach Abbott and David Shrubar Day.

The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Westside Park community hall, and the public is invited to join and talk about the old days.

The team, coached by Pat Abbott, made it to the Regional semifinals in 1979 and forced overtime against a Crockett team with professional athletes. They lost the game but are widely remembered for never giving up and fighting until the buzzer.

“Bring a lawn chair, a friendly smile and swap stories about coach and David and other Mustangs,” former player Rhonnie Lester wrote in the invitation. “It will be a great time to continue and refresh old friendships.”

Organizers will offer non-alcholic beverages and snacks.
