It may come as a surprise to you that our Texas Hill Country is home to a unique property where you can interact with wild animals in a free-roaming, safari-type environment. The Exotic Resort Zoo, located on 137 acres in Johnson City, is the vision of two people, Dennis and Marilyn Bacque, who fell in love with the Hill Country while planning the perfect retirement getaway on the acreage they had just purchased for a personal retreat.

PEC launches SMS texting for emergency alerts

As part of Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s (PEC’s) commitment to keep members informed, the cooperative has launched a one-way emergency SMS (text) alert service. “The new system, allows PEC to send text messages to members’ mobile phones during emergency situations, including prolonged power interruptions and peak energy demand conditions,” said Mike Viesca, PEC executive vice president of public affairs.

Science Mill to host Butterfly Bonanza Saturday

If you’re feeling that spring itch to explore outdoors, know that you’re not alone: pollinators are all a-buzz too! You’ll spot butterflies, bees and other insects — even bats, if you’re lucky — as they visit spring blooms, spreading pollen as they go to help plants form new seeds. The Science Mill in Johnson City will be celebrating pollinators (and Earth Day) at their Butterfly Bonanza (+ Bats & Bees) event on Saturday, April 24.
