PEC employees donate school supplies locally

Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) employees teamed up to provide a bright start to the school year for area teachers and students. Across its offices, PEC employees donated more than 5,000 school supplies to benefit school districts across the cooperative’s service territory. Supplies donated in each PEC office will be distributed locally in the area served.

Marble Falls ISD reports smooth sailing on day one

Marble Falls Independent School District officials said the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 18, was successful with no setbacks or unexpected occurances. Marble Falls Elementary School Principal Michael Haley credited the community with an easy first day. “Our families and students did a great job with arrival today,” he said in an email statement to The Highlander. “Our parents and guardians have really stepped up by having conversations with their students to prepare them to independently find their classes, and the kids have done a GREAT job!”

Granite Shoals resident graduates DPS academy

The largest Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) graduating class in history includes at least one trooper with ties to Burnet County. Andrew Lee Mitchell of Granite Shoals was one of 145 new Texas Highway Patrol troopers who graduated in the A-2021 recruit class during a Friday, July 30, ceremony at the Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin.
